Norway Two

The Story

One weekend, I flew back from Washington, met Josie at the airport, and took off for Oslo in Norway. Our plan was to catch the train from Oslo to Bergen, a small fishing village on the west coast - "Gateway to the Fjords". However, imagine our delight (!) when we found that track work prevented any trains from running, and a bus would take us to Bergen. "Don't worry", she said in heavily accented English, "it only takes seven hours". Hmm, ok, same time as the train...pretty impressive. Eleven hours later, at about 1am, we finally arrived into Bergen...

However, Norway and Bergen are beautiful places - the fjords are like Pittwater multiplied by a hundred, the people are friendly, and the standard of living is high. Enjoy the photos!

It was absolutely pissing down when I took this photo, and cold as ice - but the scenery is nice! The background to the photo on the left Lots of streams cascade down into the fjords Clouds give vent to rain, falling on hills, creating rivulets
Sheer-sided walls drop into the water Some of these streams were really impressive! The town of Bergen was very pretty - quite colonial & picturesque All the flags of the world, against a backdrop of low cloud
Looking across the main city park to the pastel-coloured houses on the other side Our artistic acquisition for the trip - a beautiful glass sculpture called Glinda The sun breaks through over Bergen harbour Looking up to some of the hills that surround Bergen
From the top of the hill, looking south across Bergen - taken at 11pm Looking west across Bergen Harbour, taken about 11pm
