Barbados

The Story

I was lucky enough to have to fill in for my boss and present at a meeting in Barbados at the end of October 2000. Unfortunately I was only able to spend one night and a morning there (when I checked in, the receptionist said "oh, a hit & run trip, eh?"), but I took the opportunity to shoot some film and try to capture the beauty of this lovely island. I also experimented with some shots from the plane windows. Barbados is quite close to the north coast of South America, almost the last island in the Caribbean chain as it stretches its way south.

I flew via Miami - this is the view of South Beach as we took off for Barbados Cotton-wool clouds lit up by the sun The setting sun washes over the clouds at 37,000ft Sunset, mid-air, somewhere over the Caribbean
Deep blue fades to black. The white speck at the top is the moon. Dawn in Glitter Bay, with my footprints stretching away into the middle distance The roots of a beachside tree, exposed by the cutting waves Looking back at the Colony Club Hotel
Glitter Bay, with a lone figure paying homage to the sunrise on the point The beach, washed by sunlight. The water was lovely and warm! Sculpture in the garden, with sailboats moored just off the beach A very relaxed atmosphere at the Colony Club Hotel!
