Amalfi One

The Story

Amalfi is a beautiful sea-side town set right into the cliffs overlooking the Med. It is a haven for tourists who arrive by bus and boat, and given that the roads are too narrow to allow two buses to pass on a corner, the bus traffic can be a real problem!

We stayed in a converted 13th century convent, in a very private room with a huge roof terrace overlooking the main harbour & marina. A wonderful, relaxing, romantic holiday.

A detail on the front door of the Amalfi Duomo - the saint's head is polished to a shine Beautiful lemons and cherry tomatoes for sale in Amalfi Hundreds of red-hot chilli pepers - the sign reads "viagra naturale"! Looking up from the main square to the Moorish-influenced Duomo spire
A local cat asleep in a piece of local ceramic! Enjoying our fabulous roof terrace Josie, doing another great imitation of a supermodel Amalfi - a classic image of a fishing boat and a fisherman
Tucked into the skirts of the Duomo are numerous restaurants One rainy day we took a drive up to Ravello, a town set on the cliff overlooking Amalfi. This garden was beautiful, but it apparently has the best view on the whole Amalfi coast! Pity about the cloud.... Flowers in the garden at Ravello Looking across the valley from Ravello as a break opens in the mist
An underwater nativity scene in the Blue Grotto A rock formation that looks like Garibaldi's Head in the Blue Grotto Looking down to the water from a restaurant in Positano The Amalfi coast is full of stunning scenery like this - villages clinging to cliffs, clouds surrounding mountaintops.
Josie leans on the balcony of our restaurant in Positano, just down the (long and winding) road from Amalfi This fountain in the main square of Amalfi speaks for itself! Clouds, cliffs, and ancient Italian buildings A fountain survives its own rainstorm (Josie in the background)
