The Story

The British Australian Football League holds an annual demonstration match in London between the winners of the Australian Football League Premiership. In 1999, Hawthorne & Essendon fought it out in Melbourne, and then came to London to do it all again at The Oval on 9th October. Josie and I went to "see the big man fly", and my camera did a great job to capture some of these action shots.

Who else but every Pom's favorite Aussie expat, Rolf Harris, to open the proceedings Great spoil! Josie is enthralled by it all - so many men, such short shorts! What would a game of Aussie Rules be without a couple of Aussie cuties and a Mexican Wave?
Half time, and the pitch is invaded. See if you can spot all the balls in the air - I counted at least six! Great mark! Some of the Essendon lads warm up right in front of us. I had to put the bib on Josie. This guy couldn't just settle for streaking - he had to climb to the top of the goalpost before dropping his daks. By some miracle, he managed to evade the security staff!
Goal! And of course the crowd worships the goal umpires. Well - some of them did.
