Sailing the BVIs - Two

The Story

The British Virgin Islands are located about 50 mins flying time east of Puerto Rico, at the top of the long curving archipelago that is the Caribbean Island chain. Josie and I flew down there in early November 2000 for a week aboard a lovely 37 ft Sun Odyssey called "Mickey Mouse" - just the two of us. The weather was beautiful, the winds were strong & steady, and the islands were just "limin', mon!" (Caribbean for "very nice, thank you!") We'd go back in a heartbeat...

Beautiful colours and a dinghy framed in the sunset from Cooper Island Sunset bliss... Josie had to catch up on some work - we're now at anchor at Marina Cay Beautiful Marina Cay, our home for two nights
The sunset frames another yacht at Marina Cay The setting sun lights up some storm clouds over Marina Cay The unsung hero of our trip - the mooring ball! Made us feel very safe & snug during some windy nights. "If you like Pina Colada...& getting caught in the rain..."
The boat at the centre of this photo is called "Poof Begone", which Josie and I thought was highly amusing! Josie assumes the position at the Fort Burt Hotel, on our last night in the BVIs The view across Road Harbour, Tortolla from our balcony at the Fort Burt Hotel Looking out to the Sir Francis Drake strait from the Fort Burt Hotel
The round turret of the Fort Burt Hotel, with a lone sailboat in the distance On our way back to Washington we had a few hours layover in Puerto Rico. This is one of the huge old spanish forts in Old San Juan A beautiful streetscape in Old San Juan
